@@3-6. People who work for economic growth in developing countries

Economic growth in developing countries is a key to solve the food distribution problem.  Here, I would like to introduce people, other than the U.N. or governments, who are working for economic growth in developing countries.

I would like to introduce an agricultural development project in Indonesia which has been designed, proposed and implimented by Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., one of the biggest Japanese development consulting companies.

Nippon Koei has been conducting Small Scale Irrigation Management Projects (SSIMP) to reduce poverty among famers in the Nusa Tenggara area (Lombok, Timor, etc.) since 1990.

Upon local farmersf agreement and participation, they worked on projects such as building small and medium-sized dams and reservoirs, developing underground water sources, building irrigation water systems, with sustainable development scale as well as easy and economical technology. They have increased farmers' income and sense of independence by teaching how to run the agricultural business through making both irrigation associations and farmersf organizations.

The sustainable development approach in which local farmers can participate has become a motive force for helping people grow out of poverty and achieved excellent results.  It is highly regarded by the Indonesian Government.
